A common question I get asked is “Jenni, how can I make my makeup last longer?” Most people think a thicker foundation will last longer but a very heavy coverage is not always a flattering look. The trick to longer lasting makeup is ‘layering’. Lots of thin layers will last a lot longer than one thick layer. This process can be applied to all aspects of your makeup; foundation, eye shadow, lipstick and your blusher.
Here are a few of my personal tips to help you make your makeup last that little bit longer.
My favourite brush to use is the Zoeva – 102 Silk Finish brush. I use this to apply my foundation and really buff it into the skin. I go over my face about 3 times using a little more foundation each time. I finish off with a little bit of setting powder and my foundation lasts all day. I use this process on all my brides who need a flawless finish all day and clients who want to achieve long lasting make up.
Another make up item which challenges longevity is lip products. Lip stains are always good for staying power but I find them a bit drying so during these winter months I try to avoid them. Blotting lip stick is something I remember watching my Nanna do when I was younger. It’s an old trick but a good one. Apply your lipstick, press a tissue over the top to dab off the excess, then reapply. You can do this process 2-3 times and you will find that layering the lipstick prevents it from wearing off quickly.
When it comes to eyes, I am an eye toucher. Towards the end of the day I will more than likely have mascara on my eyes or under my eyes. To solve this small issue I have found that Lancome’s Hypnose waterproof mascara stays put all day and night. I personally think it would stay on all week if I kept it on. The only down side to this is that I find it hard to remove with normal eye makeup remover or just soap and water. However, Lancome’s Bi-Facil eye makeup remover does remove it in just a few wipes.
Another one of my favourite mascaras is Bobbi Brown – Smokey Eye mascara. I love love love this mascara! On a normal day I use this and I love how it makes my eye lashes look and feel. It coats them really well and fans them out without making them look clumpy. This brush also grabs the little lashes and makes those look longer too.
Hope these few tips help you keep your makeup feeling and looking fresher for longer.
